Amazing experience - couldn’t recommend more highly ! Perfect for first time backpackers but great for anyone to be honest. Highly organised trip, all the places you stay in are super unique and cool - not like places you could find travelling on your own. They know all the best places to visit and things to do, the team leaders were AMAZING super nice and knew exactly what they were doing and always eased anxiety as they were very experienced. All the people that did it were so nice and there wasn’t one person of the 15 I didn’t get on with. I honestly have made 15 new amazing friends. So super fun!! They make sure you get a taste of everything the country has to offer (in my experience the Costa Rica adventure one) it is so so fun and you also get volunteering opportunities too which are super rewarding and nice to do multiple different types during the trip. Thank-you Jakera!I didn’t get homesick or anxious which is saying a lot and I can put that down to the fun, people and team leaders

Made so many awesome friends and the group leaders are amazing as well! Sometimes there were problems but everyone tried their best to fix them asap, really feel like I got my moneys worth! However I would say that it might be nice to be notified in advance about the prices of the activities, because i would have no idea that those would be an extra 350€, so maybe if all the activities were listed somewhere in an email with corresponding prices, people can prepare for that

I think I spend too little time in Santa Teresa. I only went out three times in the whole trip, wish there were more opportunities.

JAKERA HISTORY
since 1998

Jakera was founded in the mid-90s in the humble fishing village of Playa Colorada, Venezuela, which still serves as the base for our Jakera Club Foundation today. We started by taking groups of travelers into remote areas of the country, such as the Orinoco Delta, where we met the Warao people. The Warao have inhabited this part of the country for the past 20,000 years and are a friendly and hospitable people who live a simple life of hunting and gathering. They have no bad words in their language and no way of offending anyone.

Jakera have earned a reputation for doing things a bit differently and having as much fun as possible while doing so. In the early 90s, Chris Patterson, the company’s CEO, started running jungle adventure programs into the Orinoco Delta, where he learned about the culture and ancient ways of the Warao people. Fascinated and inspired by the friendly Warao and their positive vibe, with no written language.

Jakera means hello, goodbye, beautiful, thanks, or just pure vida, as we have discovered more recently. Later, we established two base camps, one on the Caribbean beach of Playa Colorada and the other in the Andean mountains of Merida. From there, we developed a six-month Spanish, Venezuela Culture, and Adventure Expedition program. Now, 20 years later, Jakera has bases in some of the most exciting and sought-after countries in Latin America, including Cuba, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Colombia.

We also offer a combination of three countries in an exclusive program called “The Traveling Classroom.” This concept allows students to enjoy extended travel in contrasting countries and immerse themselves in a safe and family environment, with plenty of other travelers from around the world to hang out with when they want to chill. We believe that what every young traveler longs for when they are away from home is Jakera!

All Jakera base camps provide comfortable housing in dorm rooms, healthy meals, chill-out areas, and activities. Above all, the Jakera vibe is all about giving back, having fun and making friendships that will last a lifetime!
